How Dental Insurance Works, Simplified

In-Network vs. Out-of-Network — What It Really Means

We get this question a lot: “Are you in-network with my insurance?” The truth is, the answer isn’t always black and white.

Being “out-of-network” doesn’t necessarily mean your insurance won’t work here  it all depends on the details of your specific plan. Many PPO plans still offer great coverage even when you visit an out-of-network dentist.

If you’re unsure, we’re happy to check your benefits for you and explain your options clearly no confusion, no surprises.

Understanding Your Dental Insurance

In-Network vs. Out-of-Network — What It Really Means
It’s common to feel unsure about whether a dental office is “in-network” or “out-of-network” and what that actually means for you. The good news? Out-of-network doesn’t always mean out-of-coverage. It all depends on the type of dental insurance plan you have. Many plans, especially PPOs, still provide great benefits even if we’re not in-network.

If you’re not sure how your coverage works, we’re happy to help you figure it out.

HMO plans only cover treatment from dentists who are in-network. If you need to see a specialist, you’ll also need a referral from your in-network dentist. To make sure your care is covered, always confirm that your provider is part of your plan’s network.

Most of our patients that have an HMO plan usually end up enrolling in our in-house discount plan as it is easier and cost-effective for the procedures they need to do today!

PPO plans give you more flexibility in choosing your dentist. Being “in-network” means we’ve arranged lower rates with your provider which means lower out-of-pocket costs for you. But even if we’re out-of-network, most PPOs still cover a large portion of your treatment. In fact, many patients are surprised by how affordable out-of-network care can be.

Insurance is important but so is the right fit.
While insurance is part of the equation, it shouldn’t be the only factor in choosing your dental care. We encourage you to look for a team that offers exceptional care, flexible scheduling, and a patient-first experience that fits your life.
