3D Dental Imaging

See More. Know More. Treat Smarter. 3D dental imaging takes traditional x-rays to an entirely new level — giving your dentist a high-resolution, three-dimensional view of your mouth, face, and jaw from virtually any angle.

Whether you’re starting treatment or evaluating results, 3D imaging helps us see the full picture. Unlike standard x-rays, this technology captures both hard and soft tissue — teeth, roots, gums, nerves, bones, even airways — with incredible clarity.

With the ability to zoom, rotate, and view different layers of your anatomy, we can plan and deliver care with unmatched accuracy and confidence.

What Is 3D Dental Imaging?

3D dental imaging is powered by a technology called cone beam CT scanning named for the cone-shaped x-ray beam it uses. This beam rotates around your head, capturing images from multiple angles. The system then combines those images into a full 3D view of your teeth, jaw, and surrounding structures.

It’s quick, painless, and gives your dentist the precise detail needed to plan treatment with confidence.

Types of 3D Imaging

The large variety in the types of images a 3D x-ray machine can generate means that it can apply to many different treatments & dental situations. 3D dental imaging has applications in endodontics (root canals), oral surgery, orthodontics, prosthodontics, sleep apnea, TMJ disorders, & more. Because the image is of your entire mouth & even your entire head, we can see how your teeth relate to each other in terms of alignment, making it easier to create detailed treatment plans for straightening teeth or replacing them.

Getting a 3D dental scan is fast, painless, and requires no prep. The cone beam CT scanner rotates around your head while you sit or stand comfortably. You’ll place your chin on a small platform, and the machine will adjust to your height.

The scan takes less than 30 seconds — all you have to do is hold still.

Unlike traditional bite-wing x-rays, you won’t need to bite on a sensor. In some cases, you may bite down gently on a disposable tab to help with alignment. To ensure a clear, accurate image, a team member may use a small head brace or strap to keep you steady and centered.

We’ll guide you through every step, so the process is simple and stress-free.

Safe, Low-Radiation Imaging. Cone beam CT scans use significantly less radiation than traditional medical CT scans and even less than standard film x-rays. Your exposure is minimal and brief and a lead vest can be provided for added protection if desired.

If you are pregnant or think you might be, please let us know before any x-rays are taken. Your safety is always our top priority.

Instant Results. Seamless Care. Our 3D x-ray scanner produces a high-resolution digital image instantly, no waiting, no film development. Because the scans are fully digital, we can easily share them with any specialists involved in your treatment, like orthodontists or prosthodontists.

We’re proud to offer this advanced technology because it means faster diagnoses, more precise treatment planning, and better outcomes for every patient.
